Voice Programs

Learning to sing is a journey.

When students enter my studio, I focus on learning what their personal, technical, and musical goals are. I then individualize a plan to help them reach those goals.

I believe that the body, mind and voice are connected, so one without the other two will not work efficiently.  We move, think, and release to achieve beautiful connected singing that will last a lifetime!

That being said, I teach from a science-based approach.  You will know where your vocal cords are and how they work.  You’ll learn how to “breathe“ for singing – it’s much easier than most think.  I’ll take the mystery out of all of these things so you can relax and start to create healthy singing habits!

“I have been fortunate to have Mary Jane as a voice teacher for eight years. She has helped me grow as an artist and a person. From the beginning of my lessons, I knew that I had a safe place to learn and grow. The lessons you learn with her go deeply into being a well-rounded performer and singer. Mary Jane’s knowledge of singing and teaching is well-suited for any kind of singer. She works hard to find the latest studies and techniques to help all of the students. While I mainly focus on classical music, I have also worked on musical theater and contemporary music. She cares about every single one of her students and their growth. Every year, she makes her student compete in NATS, which has helped me with performance anxiety, confidence, and musicality. This quarter she started a group class of the dreaded sight-singing and theory. While music theory makes me nervous, she makes it fun and exciting to do. Anyone who takes lessons with Mary Jane McCloskey is in good hands.
